Children's moral motivation, sympathy, and prosocial behavior (2009)

Abstract

Two studies the role of children's moral motivation and sympathy in prosocial behavior. 1 investigated Study measured behavior and Moral motivation was other-reported prosocial self- and other-reported sympathy. assessed by emotion attributions and moral reasoning following hypothetical transgressions in a representa? tive of Swiss children (N = 1,273). Prosocial behavior increased with increas? longitudinal sample 6-year-old if children low moral motivation. Moral motivation were ing sympathy, especially displayed and sympathy also independently related to prosocial behavior.
