Congruencia de rol de género y aspiraciones de las mujeres a posiciones de liderazgo [Gender congruity and women's aspirations in leadership roles] (2009)
Abstract
In recent years there are many popular claims about female advantage in leadership. However, research offers contradictory findings concerning this issue which generates an important debate. Research by Eagly and Carli (2003a, 2003b) resolves this debate by showing that female leaders have some advantages but still face prejudice as leaders. In this paper, we review research about the influence of women's aspirations to achieve leadership positions. Our results show that women anticipate problems as leaders because prejudice towards women leaders still exists, especially in masculine organizational contexts. We interpret these results on the basis of Eagly and Karau's (2002) role congruity theory. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2009 APA, all rights reserved) (journal abstract)
