Abstract

(from the chapter) This chapter discusses the topic of the representation of information on medical risk. The authors present findings from studies examining whether or not natural frequencies improved daignostic inferences in medical experts. The subjects for these studies included medical students and physicians. The results of the authors' studies illustrate that basic research on reasoning can produce simple and powerful methods of communicating risks that can be applied in various public domains.
